“The fifth SA Women’s Wine & Spirit Awards took place much later than originally anticipated. Michelle Grimbeek, the convenor of judges and her team welcomed the all women panel on the morning of 19 November at the Nietvoorbij campus in Stellenbosch. A short briefing followed the necessary photo sessions, and then the judges were hard at work. Apart from the wine panels, a specialised spirits and liqueur panel was selected to ensure that the cream rose to the top during the gruelling double-blind tastings.”

SA Women’s Wine and Spirit Awards partnered with Spiegelau, to assure that panellists taste from truly superior stemware. The aim of the annual competition is to find worthy wines, spirits and liqueurs judged by all Female panels, and to award the best products entered. Women make up the biggest segment of the wine and spirit drinking. Women are also overwhelmingly the main buyers of wine on a global scale.

There are reports that women, as a group, increased their alcohol buying during the pandemic. SA Women’s Wine & Spirit Awards is the only competition solely judged by women.

Once again we entered the SA Women’s Wine and Spirits Awards this year and we are so proud to announce that we got a GOLD for three of our Le Pommier Wines! We are ecstatic about this award! We received GOLD for our Le Pommier Rosé 2020, Le Pommier Sauvignon Blanc 2020 and Le Pommier MAC Cabernet Franc/ Malbec 2019. A big thank you to our vineyard & cellar team, without you this would not have been possible.

With our Le Pommier Sauvignon Blanc 2020 you can smell gooseberry, tropical fruit with a hint of nettles on the nose. The palate shows lime, citrus and gooseberry fruit with a flinty, mineral finish.

The Le Pommier Rosé 2020 is salmon pink in colour and has strawberry and gooseberry aromas on the nose with a rich and fruit forward texture in the mouth. The acid is crisp and lingering inviting you to have more and more.

Our Le Pommier MAC 2019 is a rich blend of Cabernet Franc and Malbec shows dark fruit characters of blackberry and mulberry on the nose. The wine has a firm but mouth filling structure and velvety tannins on the palate with a long lingering aftertaste.
