Women Judges awarding excellence at the 2018 SA Women’s Wine & Spirits Awards
According to SAWWA (SA Women’s Wine & Spirit Awards), their annual competition aims to find excellent wines and to crown the best products entered.
This competition judged exclusively by women. Led by Michelle Grimbeek, convener of judges, and her team who are qualified female consumers or members of the wine trade who have a qualification from the Cape Wine Academy, or a similar qualification. Their endorsement would serve as a recommendation to women wine buyers.
An exciting collaboration was recently announced between Wine Intelligence, the global wine insights and research company, and Women of the Vine & Spirits, the world’s leading women’s organisation dedicated to the empowerment and advancement of women in the alcohol beverage industry. Aiming to publish a report “The truth behind gender and global wine consumption: Do women really approach wine in a different way to men?” affirms SAWWA’s research that women make up a significant percentage of the wine-buying public, yet surprisingly few marketing drives target women specifically.
They note that men and women have different brand responses and buying patterns. Too often, marketers underestimate the purchasing power of women and neglect them in their marketing strategies. The South African Women’s Wine and Spirits Awards aims to tap into this target market of consumers by having women judge the wines for the awards.
A recent study showed that in South Africa about 56% of the wine-drinking population is female, and they seem to drink more wine on a broader set of occasions than their male counterparts, who make up only around 43% of the wine-consuming population.
After entering two of Le Pommier Wines in the SAWWA competition; Sauvignon Blanc 2018 and Rosé 2018 we are proud to announce that both wines received gold awards.
Enjoy ladies!
