The Cabernet Franc Challenge is an annual wine competition, this year Christine Rudman led the tasting panel. There were 43 entrants this year, held at Vrede en Lust in March.
Although there were fewer entries due to stock shortage the judges felt that the quality and consistency of the entries seemed to be growing.
63% of all entrants received awards. The judges were very impressed with the older vintages proving the excellent potential to enjoy the wines once matured.
We decided to enter our Le Pommier Angle Peur Cabernet Franc 2019 at the Cabernet Franc Challenge, for the first time this year and were extremely happy with our GOLD award.
Our Angle Peur Cabernet Franc is a 100% Cabernet Franc blend. This spicy wine shows wonderful aromas of raspberries, plums and blackcurrant leaves. A delicate and perfumed wine with ample juice on the mid-palate and with great length. The grapes are grown and harvest on the farm. Our Angle Peur Cabernet Franc is available on our online wine shop or at our wine tasting area. Pop in for one of our woodfire oven pizzas and a bottle of our beautiful award-winning wine.
A big thank you to everyone who made this award possible and for our continued support from wine lovers and our clients alike.
“Christine Rudman, who led the challenge tasting panel, said there was less herbaceousness across the range than in previous Challenges and that the panel was also very impressed by the older vintages, which proves the maturation potential of the varietal. The best wines had balance, elegance, suppleness and complexity, showing fruit purity with tertiary perfumes and flavours of violets and graphite.” Click here to read more…
